Dukes – who’s worked with Kanye West, The Weeknd, Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Lorde, and Cardi B, among others – also offers his one essential piece of advice for young songwriters, and shouts out SOCAN.

Dukes was accompanied during the interview by Kaan Gunesberk, one of his co-writers on the global Camilla Cabello hit “Havana,” for which they were both honoured with a 2018 SOCAN Pop Music Award. Dukes also won two 2018 SOCAN Rap Music Awards, for co-writing Drake’s “Fake Love” and Post Malone’s “Congratulations.”

In a video interview, longstanding and hugely successful rock band and SOCAN members Our Lady Peace – winners of the 2018 SOCAN National Achievement Award – briefly discuss songwriting. Specifically, how they wrote the newly inducted SOCAN Classic song “Innocent”; how the band recognizes SOCAN; what effect songwriting independently in Los Angeles for the past 20 years has had on frontman Raine Maida’s approach; their dedication to the craft; and their advice for young songwriters.
